Guitar Ear Training

Ear Training

Guitar Ear Training is a discipline that is often overlooked by guitarists in their practice routine. Much of their practice time is devoted to dexterity skills, learning scales, learning chords, and learning songs. That is all good, but ear training for guitar adds huge benefits in terms of writing, and feel, and groove.

Part of Ear Training is just listening to music you appreciate. The other part is a focus on training your ear to hear specific pitches, intervals, and relationships between notes.

The Jim Sutton Institute of Guitar Ear Training Series starts with Ear Training 1 which is a straight forward approach of matching pitches on your guitar to pitches heard on the recording.  You could develop a set of exercises like this on your own, but we have taken the work out of that for you.

As you progress through the Ear Training Series, you will develop your ear to where you can hear those various pitches, intervals, chord colors, and progressions. You will train your ear hear clues which let you know what is going on.

Ear Training is something that you do a little bit of every day. The consistency over a long term is what pays the huge dividends.
